Q: I am pretty much indoors all day now that we are self-isolating and social distancing because of CoViD19. Do I still need to wear my sunscreen every day?
A: (all together now!……YES!!)
You should not be at all surprised that I will answer to this question is a resounding yes!
These are of course exceptional times and we are all looking for things to do and not do in this unusual time. Whether you’re sitting at home binge watching your favorite shows, working remotely, homeschooling the children and wondering if you are succeeding or failing at it you do still have to wear your sunscreen each and every day to ward off the effects of UVA and UVB light on your skin.
Why, you say. I’m not even driving to and from work and barely getting to the grocery store, gym, hair salon or other such errands.
Besides the fact that daily use of sunscreen is one of the most important things you can do to prevent skin cancer, it turns out that even incidental, unprotected UV exposure will have cumulative effects on skin aging and the appearance of characteristics such as sun spots, rough textures, lines and wrinkles from UV-induced collagen loss.
So, if in the course of #StayHomeStayHealthy shelter in place activities you find yourself in front of a laptop, smartphone, Kindle, iPad, by the window or gardening, going out for a brief walk with the fam, don’t forget to wear your broad spectrum antioxidant fortified sunscreen.
